UK EMC Regulations Testing — UKCA Marking

Compatible Electronics supports UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) marking for electrical and electronic equipment under the UK Electromagnetic Compatibility Regulations 2016 — applying the same EMC test standards used for EU CE marking at three Southern California locations.

What are the UK EMC Regulations?

The UK Electromagnetic Compatibility Regulations 2016 (UK EMCR) are the statutory instrument governing EMC requirements for electrical and electronic apparatus placed on the Great Britain market. They transpose the EU EMC Directive 2014/30/EU into UK law and require that equipment does not cause electromagnetic disturbances that exceed limits allowing radio and telecommunications equipment to operate as intended, and that equipment has an adequate level of intrinsic immunity to electromagnetic disturbances.

The technical standards harmonised under the UK EMC Regulations are the same EN standards used for EU EMC Directive compliance — radiated and conducted emissions, radiated immunity, ESD, EFT, surge, and generic standards such as EN 61000-6-1 and EN 61000-6-2. Test reports generated for EU EMC Directive compliance can support UKCA marking under the UK EMC Regulations. See our CE Marking EMC Testing page for the companion EU requirements.

🔎 UKCA vs CE for EMC: UKCA applies to Great Britain (England, Wales, Scotland). CE marking is required for Northern Ireland and the EU market. The technical standards are identical — the same EN 55032, EN 61326-1, EN 61000-6-1/6-2, EN 55014-1, and IEC 61000-3-2/3-3 tests apply to both marks. A single test campaign at Compatible Electronics can generate test reports supporting both UKCA (UK EMC Regulations) and CE (EU EMC Directive) in one visit.
