IEC 62368-1 Audio/Video, ITE & Communications Safety Testing

Compatible Electronics is NVLAP-accredited (Lab Code 200527-0) to test audio/video, information technology, and communication equipment to IEC 62368-1 Ed. 2 and Ed. 3 — the Hazard-Based Safety Engineering (HBSE) standard that has replaced both IEC 60950-1 and IEC 60065.

What is IEC 62368-1?

IEC 62368-1 is the international safety standard for audio/video, information and communications technology (ICT) equipment. It replaces the legacy IEC 60950-1 (IT equipment) and IEC 60065 (audio/video) under a single Hazard-Based Safety Engineering (HBSE) framework. Rather than prescribing specific constructional details, HBSE identifies energy sources, classifies them by severity (Class 1/2/3), and requires appropriate safeguards at each class boundary.

Mandatory for CE marking under the EU Low Voltage Directive and required by most global regulators, IEC 62368-1 is the standard of record for virtually every modern consumer electronics, IT, and AV product. For EMC requirements, see our EMC/EMI testing servicesradiated emissions, conducted emissions, and harmonic current can all be handled in a combined visit.

💡 Transition complete: IEC 60950-1 and IEC 60065 are withdrawn. All new product certifications must use IEC 62368-1.
